November 10, 2011After a four day network outage in our current location, we will be moving the computer that hosts to a new location tonight, Thursday, 11/10/2011. At approximately 6:30PM EST, will be taken offline, moved, and brought back up in an new location in a real datacenter. We will hopefully be back up around Midnight EST, a downtime of about 6 hours. There should be far, far less unplanned downtime after this move.

May 29 - May 30th, 2010There will be occasional outages of stealthisemail over the coming weekend as we move the server that hosts stealthisemail to a new location where it will have more consistant access to electrical power and the internet.

If possible, we would ask that you reduce the amount of disk space you're using for your email by deleting emails you no longer need or want, deleting anything in your Spam/Junk folders, and then emptying the Trash folder to permanently delete it. Thanks!

July, 1 2009 There was a power outage at the location of the server that hosts StealThisEmail. We're back online. All of your email should already be in your Inbox, or on its way today.

April, 20 2009 The fix that was made by our upstream internet provider last week will be made a permanent solution today. This may result (or may have resulted) in a few minutes of expected down time.

StealThisEmail is back

April, 16 2009. All of your email is safe, and any mail that has been sent to you since last Thursday will either already be in your mailbox, or be delivered over the next few hours.

What Happened and What's Happening

At approximately 7AM on Thursday, April 9th, 2009, the location where is hosted lost its internet access. What followed was a frustrating comedy of errors between the three companies involved in providing internet access. After multiple spirited rounds of finger-pointing at one of the other two companies, punctuated by days of inaction, one finally acknowledged their problem and fixed it.

We greatly appreciate the patience you've demonstrated throughout this ordeal.

Over the next few weeks we will be moving StealThisEmail to a better hosting location to prevent this kind of down time in the future. Again, we apologize for the length of time that StealThisEmail was unavailable.

January 22, 2009 The email delivery service for failed to restart after an upgrade this morning. From approximately 8:45AM EST to 2:30PM EST, email was not sent or delivered by Any email sent to you during this time was not recieved, but should be automatically redelivered by the sender's email system in the next few hours.

September 29, 2008 Over the weekend the SSL Public Key certificate that we use for StealThisEmail expired. You can read more about what SSL certificates do on the Wikipedia page for SSL certificates, but in part, it is what we (and everyone else on the Internet) use to create a secure connection between your web browser and our server.

Over the past few days, your web browser or email client may have given you a warning or an error about either the expired old certificate, or the new certificate.

The reason that you are getting warnings about the new certificate is because we did not buy it from one of the major corporate Certificate Authorities (CA) that sell security certificates. Instead our certificate is issued by, a CA run by a member of Interactivist. Many browsers don't recognize community CAs as being valid. However we fully trust our CA, and can assure you that the safety of you emails has not been compromised.
July 31, 2008 The site where stealthisemail is hosted lost internet connectivity for approximately 3.5 hours this afternoon, from about 2:15 PM to about 5:45 PM EDT. We apologize for any inconvience.
July 8, 2008 Our upstream Internet Service Provider will be doing some maintenance on Monday, July 14th between 1:00 am and 5:00 am. If you happen to lose access during the wee hours, and can't get through, just wait it out. This shouldn't last for more than a few minutes.

The server that hosts is available thanks to the help of Mayfirst / Peoplelink.
